CommUnityCare Hosts a 2009 Holiday Event for the Homeless
On December 22, CommUnityCare hosted a Holiday Event for the Homeless at the
Austin Resource Center for the Homeless (ARCH). CommUnityCare operates one
of its 18 health clinics within the ARCH -- dedicated to addressing the
unique healthcare needs of Austin¹s homeless population. A generous donation
from Superior Health Plan funded holiday refreshments and CommUnityCare
employees donated hundreds of warm socks, hats, gloves, coats, sweaters,
and other warm clothing items. Homeless participants were also given a
raffle ticket for a chance to receive a new sleeping bag or warm blanket.
The drive was also supported by the efforts of Charles Thibodeaux and the
NorthSTAR Program of the Dept of State Health Services, and students and
parents of the Khabele School, Hendrickson High School (led by Jalen and
Myles Harlen) and St. Gabriel¹s Catholic School (led by Jill and Frank
Desilets).
Approximately 350 event participants enjoyed holiday decorations, received
wrapped gifts, warm drinks and holiday goodies. They were entertained with
live keyboard music played by CommUnityCare CEO, David B. Vliet. Thank you
to all who helped make a Holiday for the Homeless a success!
